Which of the following sentences is correct? "await for" or "awaits"

Which of the following sentences is correct? "I am waiting for your reply" or "I am awaiting for your reply"?

The second sentence is wrong. One does not "await for" something or someone; one merely "awaits" something or someone. "Await" is considered to be much more formal than "wait". Here are a few examples.

*   We are awaiting instructions from the Chairman.

*   We are waiting for instructions from the Chairman.

*   She was awaiting the arrival of her parents.

*   She was waiting for the arrival of her parents.
