A bird's-eye view / Aerial view / Worm's-eye view - The term a worm's-eye view is a controversial term.

A bird's-eye view is an elevated view of an object from above, with a perspective as though the observer were a bird, often used in the making of blueprints, floor plans, and maps. It can be an aerial photograph, but also a drawing. Before manned flight was common, the term "bird's eye" was used to distinguish views drawn from direct observation at high locations (for example a mountain or tower), from those constructed from an imagined (bird's) perspectives. Bird's eye views as a genre have existed since classical times. The last great flourishing of them was in the mid-to-late 19th century, when bird's eye view prints were popular in the United States and Europe. The terms aerial view and aerial viewpoint are also sometimes used synonymous with bird's-eye view. The term aerial view can refer to any view from a great height, even at a wide angle, as for example when looking sideways from an airplane window or from a mountain top. Overhead v

Can ‘downtime’ be used with humans also?

Can ‘downtime’ be used with humans also? It's a term that was first used in factories. A factory's ‘downtime’ is the period when its machines are switched off. It's also used with computers. A computer's downtime is the period when it is switched off. When it is not in use. So when a person talks about downtime, he is referring to the period when he does not work. He relaxes. *    If it's downtime you want, work for a government organization. *    Last year we didn't get downtime between projects. It was just terrible.

Goldbricking - It means to be lazy.

What does “goldbricking” mean? It means to be lazy. To avoid doing one's duty. Like our Government officials! I wish somebody would tell these people to stop goldbricking and do some work for a change. Goldbricking is what our politicians are born to do. Even those who are not goldbrickers become one. A goldbricker is someone who spends his time doing nothing. *    Madhu is such a goldbricker. *    If you think he is a goldbricker, you should meet his brother. We've talked about ‘goldbricking’ and ‘goldbricker’. Does the word `goldbrick' exist? Yes, it does. A ‘goldbrick’ is someone who is very lazy. *    Stop wasting your time and get back to work you goldbrick. *    Our cable operator is such a goldbrick.

Why do we say "an MBBS" and "an MP"?

Why do we say "an MBBS" and "an MP"? The rule for using the articles "a" and "an" is quite simple.  Use "a" before words that begin with a consonant sound and "an" before words that begin with a vowel sound.  Notice that I am not referring to the letter which a word begins with, but the sound.  Try this out. Say M.B.B.S. Now say the word "monkey". Do you hear a difference between the "m" in monkey and "MBBS"?  The letter "m" when said in isolation, as it is done in the case of "MBBS" and "MP", begins with a vowel sound. That's the reason why you use the article "an". But the same letter in words like "monkey" and "man" begins with a consonant sound.  This also explains why the word university" although it begins with the letter "u" does not take the article "an" before it. The word does not beg

What is the meaning and origin of the expression "once in a blue moon"? When something happens "once in a blue moon" it happens very rarely.

What is the meaning and origin of the expression "once in a blue moon"? When something happens "once in a blue moon" it happens very rarely. Here are a few examples.   There are several explanations as to the origin of this expression. According to scientists, whenever a volcano erupts, the Sulphur and dust particles that are thrown up into the atmosphere often cause the moon to appear blue for some time. When the volcano on Krakatoa (an island between Java and Sumatra) exploded in 1883, rocks were hurled thirty miles high into the air and dust from the volcano fell nearly three thousand miles away. After this eruption the moon looked blue for several days. Luckily for us, volcanoes don't erupt every day, so a blue moon continues to be a rare phenomenon. Another explanation offered by scholars is the following. On very rare occasions we have two full moons within the same month. The editors of "Maine Far

How is the word "penchant" pronounced?

How is the word "penchant" pronounced? This is a word of French origin and as you may expect there is a big difference in the manner in which the French and the English pronounce it. Here's how the Englishmen pronounce the word. The first syllable sounds like the word "pen", while the "a" in the second is pronounced like the "a" in "china". The "ch" is like the "ch" in "chips", "cheap", and "choose"; the main stress is on the first syllable. Any idea what the word means? When you have a penchant for something, you have a strong liking for it. You tend to do it. The word is generally used in formal contexts. Here are a few examples, * Dilka has a penchant for wearing jeans and T-shirt. * Many writers in our country have a penchant for the florid.

Unity is Strength!

A man married a beautiful girl. He loved her very much. One day she developed a skin disease. Slowly she started to lose her beauty. It so happened that one day her husband left for a tour. While returning he met with an accident and lost his eyesight. However their married life continued as usual. But as days passed she lost her beauty gradually. Blind husband did not know this and there  was not any difference in their married life. He continued to love her and she also loved him very much. One day she died. Her death brought him great sorrow. He finished all her last rites and wanted to leave that town. A man from behind called and said, now how will you be able to walk all alone? All these days your wife used to help you. He replied, I am not blind. I was acting,  because if she knew l could see her ugliness it would have pained her more than her disease. So I pretended to be blind. She was a very good wife. I only wanted to keep her happy. Moral:- *Some times it is good f

Time Thieves ! Our numbers being taken; formed as database, divided as potential customers and non-potential customers.

Time Thieves! Our modern lives are full of time thieves. Why I say time thieves because if something is taken without our knowledge and intention is theft right? Your phone buzzing and interrupting you in the middle of an important task. Sales calls, promotional calls, marketing calls ! How do they get our number? We are being sold out without any sales returns. Our numbers being taken; formed as database, divided as potential customers and non-potential customers. Cold calling, hot calling in order to convince us. Most of these calling agents are asked to scare us sometimes bully us vulnerable people who succumb for certain pep talks or when these trained negotiators hurt our "Ego". your time is constantly being stolen from you, minute by minute, hour by hour. And once you’ve lost that time you can never get it back again. To remain focused and make sure these time thieves don’t get the upper hand, you need tricks up your sleeve.   Consciously avoid falling prey

Time thieves

I don't give my Phone number; But how do they get ? Time thieves! We lend our phone numbers readily for online buying ! All most all registration require one time password "OTP" nowadays, so we give it . All these agents sell our numbers to such parasites and eventually loot us. Is there a way to escape from this trap ? NO, however smart we are one will definitely get in to this stigma.

“I will be the winner”

“I will be the winner” Not everyone is able to reach dizzying heights. Not everyone gets everything that they desire. And yet, everyone can be a winner. Winning is an attitude and becomes a habit with time. The relentless pursuit of happiness, success and the willingness to work hard are the hallmarks of a winning attitude. There is a winner in each one of us, only a few are able to exploit this attitude in their lives. 'I will be the winner' is a statement of affirmation and motivation. Constantly repeating and reminding this to yourself will not only create a feel good factor but also motivate you to keep striving hard to achieve your objectives. Self-belief is the key to develop the winning attitude. A person who doubts himself/ herself, remains insecure, short of confidence and does not feel proud of himself/ herself will find it difficult to become a winner as he/ she will always have doubts about winning or succeeding.  When you are

Hand writing! Hand written! Writing and beyond! the handwriting of doctors was no less legible than that of non-doctors.

Handwriting Handwriting is a person's particular & individual style of writing with pen or pencil, which contrasts with "Hand" which is an impersonal and formalized writing style in several historical varieties.  Hand writing of an individual is not just an impression of letters on paper but is also an impression of his/her thoughts and attitude. Every literate human has his own manner of writing. There are many peculiarities in a handwritten text such as specific shape of letters (their roundness or sharpness), regular or irregular spacing between letters, slope of the letters, rhythmic repetition of the elements or arrhythmia, the pressure to the paper, the average size of letters and many others. Handwriting of every individual is relatively stable, i.e. the style of writing changes very slowly with age. Another important fact is that all people have different handwriting. Even identical twins have differences. Therefore, the most common type of questioned

India in 20 years

MY vision of INDIA after 20 years                                                                        In another 20 years my view on my country’s development would be far too big as its size and strength.  India’s belief has always been brotherhood and co-existence, yet our borders are surrounded by hostile countries. Unless a nation is able to defend its borders and integrity, all other developments are of no use. We do have several proven instances of internal disturbances, be it Kashmir or the North-East we have dangers all around. I am confident that by 2040 International relations would significantly improve for trade, security and communication. India will look forward to developing greater economic ties with Russia, South-East Asia, S. Africa, Latin American countries and also in co-operation with China and geo-economic matters. Our country will also hopefully achieve friendly ties with Pakistan. Glory of a nation is not co
