Depression can contribute to obesity

“Depression can contribute to obesity,” “It’s hard to stop smoking when you’re depressed. Depression keeps people out of the workplace in huge numbers, reduces productivity at school and work, and has tremendous ramifications for our economy.” People who suffer from depression are nearly 28 times more likely to miss work because of emotional disability. Depression touches on issues fundamental to public health, such as mental health parity: who gets access to mental health care, when and how? Depression underscores racial and ethnic differences in health. African-American women, for example, have a significantly lower depression rate than white women, and overall, fewer blacks than whites commit suicide. At the same time, African Americans are less likely than whites to seek outpatient care for depression. Socioeconomically disadvantaged populations are often at greater risk for depression.Social context shapes mental health, residents of so-called “bad” neighborhoods—neighborhoods wit

Deep in to Depression

“Depression destroys families. It ruins careers. It ages patients prematurely,” “Depression is debilitating, progressive and relentless in its downhill course, as tough and worthy an opponent as any a doctor might choose to combat.” Increasingly, though, it’s not just doctors who are battling this scourge. Once an ordeal suffered in private and often in shame, depression is now a major public health issue. Some would argue it’s the major public health issue of this century. Not long ago, society viewed depression as a moral weakness, not a physical disease, and people kept it a secret. Insurers paid little or nothing for treatment. Combined, these two factors—stigma and cost—kept people out of care. “Over half the costs in mental health today are due to depression,” What’s more, depressed people are more likely to do damage to themselves or others and more likely to suffer from chronic diseases, and the fact that they have depression intensifies chronic ailments. “More than any other

Guidelines for storing my pumped milk?

Your milk is a living substance so precious some call it "white blood". It is essential to store your expressed (pumped) milk properly to maximize its nutritional and anti-infective qualities. Human milk actually has anti-bacterial properties that help it to stay fresh. Giving your baby the freshest milk you have pumped ensures its high quality. This information is based on current research and applies to mothers who: have healthy, full-term babies; are storing their milk for home use (as opposed to hospital use); wash their hands before expressing; use containers that have been washed in hot, soapy water and rinsed. All milk should be dated before storing. Storage Guidelines Storing milk in 2-4 ounce amounts may reduce waste. Refrigerated milk has more anti-infective properties than frozen milk. Cool milk in refrigerator before adding to frozen milk. Human milk can be stored at room temperature (66-72°F, 19-22°C) for up to 10 hours in a refrigerator (32-39°F, 0-4°C) for up t

Breastfeeding-Important tips

Breastfeeding is the feeding of an infant or young child with breast milk directly from a woman's breasts, not from a baby bottle or other container. Babies have a sucking reflex that enables them to suck and swallow milk. According to a 2001 WHO report, alternatives to breastfeeding include: Expressed breast milk from an infant’s own mother Breast milk from a healthy wet-nurse or a human-milk bank A breast-milk substitute fed with a cup, which is a safer method than a feeding bottle and teat In most situations human breast milk is the best source of nourishment for human infants, preventing disease, promoting health and reducing health care costs (exceptions include if the mother is taking certain drugs or infected with tuberculosis or HIV). Experts disagree about how long to breastfeed to gain the greatest benefit, and the risks of using artificial formulas. In both developing and developed countries, artificial feeding is associated with more deaths from diarrhoea in infants. The

Water therapy

Water therapy is the use of water to improve health. Drink six [6] glasses of water (1.5 liter) everyday and avoid medicine, tablets, injections, diagnosis, doctor fees etc. You can never believe before practicing. Here is the list of diseases that can be cured by this water therapy: Head Ache Blood Pressure / Hypertension Anemia (Blood shortage) Rheumatism (Pain in joints/muscles) General Paralysis Obesity (Fatness) Arthritis Sinusitis Tachycardia Giddiness Cough Asthma Bronchitis Pulmonary Tuberculosis Meningitis Kidney Stones Urogenital Diseases Hyper acidity Gastro – entitis Dysentery Rectal Piodapse Constipation Hostorthobics Diabetes Eye diseases Ophthalmic Hemorrhage & Opthalmia (Reddish eye) Irregular Menstruation Leukemia Uterus Cancer Breast Cancer Laryngitis HOW TO DO THIS WATER THERAPY? 1. Early morning, after you get up from bed, (without even brushing your teeth) drink 1.50 litters of water i.e. 5 to 6 glasses. You may wash your face thereafter. 2.

Anti Depression

The experience belongs to millions. For Styron, it began with gnawing perception that all was not right in his world. Gradually it evolved into full-blown pain, at once unfocused and unbearable, he says. For others, depression descends like a fog. They withdraw, become fatigued, sleep too little (or too much), shun food (or overeat), lose interest in friends, family, life itself. Their voices flatten. In late stages of the disease they take on what psychiatrist Peter Kramer, author of Against Depression, calls a “typical look. Blank stare, downcast eyes, knitted brow. Head supported by a hand, or face masked by one. This expression is one that artists have depicted for centuries, what doctors call the facies of the illness.” Between 18 and 20 million Americans—17 percent of the population—suffer from depression, women more than men. Worldwide, depressive illnesses account for 75 to 85 percent of all suicides. Uni-polar, or clinical, depression is one of the top five leading causes of

Only 17% of women are likely to have an orgasm during sex (Durex Global Sex Survey). According to a survey of sex shop owners, cherry is the most popular flavor of edible underwear. A man will ejaculate approximately 18 quarts of semen, containing half a trillion sperm, in his lifetime. 48% of 9,100 men polled on an online dating site say they too have faked an orgasm. In ancient Greece and Rome dildos were carved out of everything they could get their hands on from wood, glass, leather, gold, silver and even animal horns. The left testicle usually hangs lower than the right for right-handed men. The opposite is true for lefties. A female orgasm is a powerful painkiller (because of the release of endorphins), so headaches are in fact a bad excuse not to have sex. John Harvey Kellogg invented corn flakes as a meatless breakfast food, designed to reduce the sexual drive.

Sex is an instant cure for mild depression. It releases endorphins into the bloodstream, producing a sense of euphoria and leaving you with a feeling of well-being A lot of lovemaking can unblock a stuffy nose. Sex is a natural antihistamine. It can help combat asthma and hay fever. The earliest known illustration of a man using a condom during sexual intercourse is painted on the wall of a cave in France. It is dated between 12,000 and 15,000 years old. The first condoms in the US were made from vulcanized rubber in the 1870s. They were expensive and annoyingly thick and meant to be reused. In Texas it is illegal to sell a vibrator as anything other than a ‘novelty’.

Being Captain Kirk

He had to change being Captain Kirk, to meeting Captain Kirk. Upon meeting Kirk, Pausch realized that Kirk wasn't the smartest on the Star Ship Enterprise, that honor probably went to Spock. Kirk was not the doctor or the engineer, like McCoy or Scottie. Captain Kirk did have something special though -- unique, leadership abilities. "It's cool to meet your boyhood idol, but it's even cooler when he comes to you to see what cool stuff you're doing," said Pausch, as William Shatner, who played Captain Kirk, came to his Entertainment Technology Center to see which of the Sci Fi gadgets predicted in Star Wars had actually come to our planet. In addition to head fakes, Pausch made frequent references to the brick wall, which he said is erected in everyone's path in order to give us a chance to show how badly we want something by getting around it.

Playing in the National Football League

Playing in the National Football League was not in the cards, but that was OK. Randy Pausch learned more from not accomplishing that goal than he did from some he did accomplish. His hulking coach Jim Graham asked the players to show up for practice without a football. When questioned, the coach said that only one person at a time had the football, he wanted to focus on the 21 of 22 players who don't have the ball at any given moment. One day the coach was constantly crawling Pausch's skinny frame. Coach approached the exhausted player after practice and explained that it was OK to be ridden so hard explaining, "When you're screwing up and no one is bothering to tell you anymore, that's a really bad place to be." Throughout the lecture, Pausch threw many head fakes, as he called them. The first head fake: Learning is everywhere, even if you don't learn it in the NFL. Today he carries a football with him which he tosses as he thinks through tough problems.

Experience Zero Gravity

Dr. Pausch said he believes it's important to have specific dreams. So for example, he did not want to be an astronaut, just to experience zero gravity, since he realized at a young age that his bad eyesight would preclude the astronaut thing. He got close to that dream when his students submitted the winning proposal to NASA to get into the Vomit Comet. He was so close, he almost taste it, when he discovered that Professors were explicitly prohibited from participation. But students could bring a local journalist from their hometown to write about the journey. Pausch scored some press credentials and, one dream was realized.

Live Like You Were Dying

In his mega-million selling country hit, Live Like You Were Dying, Tim McGraw sang, "I was in my early forties with a lot of life before me when a moment came that stopped me on a dime. I spent most of the next days looking at the x-rays, talking 'bout the options and talking 'bout sweet time. I asked him when it sank in that this might really be the real end, how's it hit you when you get that kinda news? Man what'd you do?" Instead of skydiving, Rocky Mountain climbing or going 2.7 seconds on a bull named Fu Manchu, Carnegie Mellon University Professor Randy Pausch accepted an invitation to give the first in a series of lectures asking speakers to assume that they are giving their last lecture. The not-so-funny coincidence is that Professor Pausch is dying of pancreatic cancer and has 3-6 months of good health left. So it was perhaps easier than most, for Pausch to get into the intended mind frame of the lecture series. Armed with his power point presentatio

Are You Really Procrastinating?

A young college student came to me for help with a few different issues, but in particular she wanted hypnosis so she could stop procrastinating. She was nearing the end of her pharmacy degree, and had always gotten her academic results by ending up studying really hard in the final days before an exam. It was really starting to be an issue for her and she had finally sought professional help about it. But before I go on, just take a moment and think about what you would advise for this woman in this situation. It doesn't matter if you know something about hypnotherapy or not, because in this woman's particular situation I ended up not needing hypnosis and completing it all within the session. In this session I did a further assessment. I checked what her results were, she was getting either distinctions or at worst credits for all her results. When I asked her what exactly was bothering her about her procrastination, she told me that her friends and even some of her family wer

Dealing With Grief

In 2005, I suffered through the deaths of my mother, husband and an uncle. The grieving process has given me time to reflect on my needs and how the people around me reacted during that very difficult time. I needed strength and comfort and what I observed was loving people that didn't know what to say. Most people have never learned any skills in how to support a loved one through grief. I was confronted with our friends who didn't know how to treat me now that I no longer had a spouse and therefore was no longer a couple. Suddenly I was not invited to participate in the things that we used to. After the initial 60-90 days following the death of my husband, I noticed people wanted me to be back to normal. I now understand this because it was only my life that changed, not theirs. I needed to adjust. I encourage those who suffered loss to ask for what they need and I have put together some suggestions to help loved ones understand and support those through their time of grief.

Painting My Life

When I met you My life was black and blue Never thinking that you could be a painter Ready to paint my life in rainbow You have the sweetest smile And every time you speak You paint my day in pink You have those green mesmerizing eyes And every time you wink You turn me into red You have the hands of a man Ready to keep me safe from harm Every time I see you coming Can't stop my heart from beating You make my blue heart beat back into Rhythm with the shades of red You've changed my life That once was black and blue You really are a painter That completely paints my life in rainbow

Where is your Heart?

Patrick, a man down on his luck, had come to a difficult point in his life. He tried all imaginable ways to get himself in a better situation. Finally, when he had exhausted all his options, he turned to God. "Lord, I need your help! I believe only you can help me." God answered: "Be still and know the truth! If you truly believed, you would have come to me first. You would have shared that first moment of need with me. If you knew I would help, you would not have waited until you had no other choice. I would have been your first refuge, not your last hope." Patrick replied, "But I was upset with you Lord. For not protecting me from these hard times." The Lords voice thundered compassionately, "I am the architect of the event; you are the interpreter of the moment." "You are quick to negatively label my plan because of its implications for you. Why not take a look, if proof is what you need, at history. Events that were often presumed to be

Helping Hands PART:2

I sincerely believe that if only all the helping hands around the world could converge and sincerely pledge their commitments to make the life of these helpless children, not only in Palestine but in all parts of the world, which are mostly ravaged by the cruel hands of war mongers, the dirty hands of corrupt politicians and the greedy hands of unscrupulous capitalists, could give light to new ray of hope so that they, these helpless children, could start to believe in themselves and start to appreciate the start of a glorious, civilized and caring world so that history could be recreated for the benefit of mankind. At that instant I realized that the convergence of many helping hands must start with one helping hand and that is mine. I have been a receiver all my life but the time has come for me to change that. I must change from being a receiver to become a giver. The hands on top are better than the hands at the bottom. The hands on top are the helping hands of a giver. But how do

Helping Hands - Part :1

t was a glorious Sunday morning. The sun was shining gallantly piercing through my glass window. I wanted to continue to snuggle under the sheets but I hate to see a perfectly beautiful day go to waste. I forced myself to wake up and gazed out the window. There was not a single cloud in the sky and the birds were chirping away, singing tunes of freedom. The morning air was crisp and fresh. Subconsciously I began humming the tunes of "What a Wonderful Life" in my heart. My heart was brimming with joy. My mind was peaceful and contented. There was a sense of calmness and serenity flowing through my body. Deep inside, I was happy. I was blessed with a lot of good things in life. As I turned away from the window, my eyes caught a small poster across the room, which read, "In order to help others, I must help myself first". I couldn't remember where and how I got it but the poster has always been there for as long as I could remember. I didn't take notice of it b

A Beautiful Future Filled With Abundance

Each time something in our life ends, it creates room for a new experience. Within each new experience is a stepping-stone. Some are little tiny pebbles and others are big boulders. Some are fun and some are exhausting but with each passing day we learn why we are here, what our mission is and why different individuals come in and out of our lives. Each time a relationship ends or we leave a relationship we must examine ourselves, our hearts, our souls. What brought us to this person to begin with? How did we attract them into our lives? How did they bring us into their reality and why? Each step is part of the journey to going within and finding out who we really are, why we were brought here, and why we go through misery and pain sometimes. We must first work on the inside and the outside will follow. Think about it? What is truly your life's mission? Do all that you can to create it. It's a journey… take the adventure. You have gone through many rough periods in your life an

Dealing With Depression

The dictionary describes depression as a condition of general emotional dejection and withdrawal, sadness greater and more prolonged than that warranted by any objective reason. The question here is why does one get depressed? Is it the inability to cope with the situation or the high stress levels that come with success or failure? Life is full of twists and turns, some pleasant others not so pleasant or at times dreadful. No one is devoid of problems in their lives. Everyone has their own personal set of problems. Even the people who have a smile constantly on their face have problems. The only difference is they know how to tackle the problems of their life and smile about the fact that they can overcome those problems, similar to Mother Nature. Some one compared the changes in Mother Nature with depression so aptly. He said each year nature sheds all its charm and the vibrant colors but then again it blooms to its optimum capacity to smile and teach us the most valuable lesson of l

Be Courageous

Some roads are better off walked alone, Some words are better left unsaid, Some people are better off left behind And sometimes, only sometimes, it is the hardest thing to figure out When that "sometime" has come. And so you dwell, you drift so alone in the dark Hoping to find something other than what you've found before. Wondering if it even exists, If it's really there, real to touch, Enough to embrace, and deep, For it to truly understand all of you. Thinking that you might be crazy, Asking for something that has not yet been made Or at least not been made FOR YOU. And as you watch on, trying to find out, who went wrong Or what is wrong You just pray that all is as should be. Maybe I should change and become one of them And maybe, just maybe, I should lift my head up Stand tall and go there, where my being is heard, And my life too has meaning!

The Stray Cat Who Was PART:2

The doctor smiled, as if he knew about something I was missing here. "Come back in ten days to have the stitches removed", was all he said. I was on my way home, with my newborn and new houseguest. I wondered how my husband would react when I would explain to him that the stray cat, who more than likely didn't have rabies, would be staying with us for six months. It seemed like an easy enough arrangement, we would just keep him separated from our household by keeping him in the basement. Yes, he could stay in the basement for six months and then we would help him to find a home. It all went as planned, although my husband was caught off guard by the news regarding the new houseguest, he managed to be understanding. As for the tomcat, he seemed to exemplify the definition of gratitude. I thought he would be trying to get upstairs. I envisioned that he would try to escape. I expected him to complain. Instead we had the perfect guest, gracious and non-invasive, living in our

The Stray Cat Who Was PART:1

I can still remember waking up in the middle of the night to what sounded like a terrible catfight. Perhaps it was the neighbor's cat or the stray they had been feeding. I was happy to know that my animals were safe and sound inside. I quickly forgot about it and went back to sleep. The next morning, there he was at my door. He was obviously in pain and looking for somebody to help him. The wound looked as if something had gotten him by his neck and had a good bite. Without thinking, I took him in, called my veterinarian who kindly agreed to see us right away. I packed him and my newborn baby into the car and we were on our way. He was a kind animal and had been around for a few months now. He was a typical "Tom", but he was friendly and gentle with people. I had come to enjoy his visits to my yard, but always finished them by making sure I washed my hands well, as he was rough around the edges and always covered in dirt. He seemed too skinny for the big frame he had and

What Life Means To Me

may still be young and naïve but I believe that life is worth everything. For me, it's not just about having a relationship, companionship, good friends or maybe a job that you like, if you are lucky. Some people will settle for things like this because for them, it's by far the best it can get. For me, that's not all you get from this world. I believe in harps and violin and thunders and lightning. I believe in being in love and not just a mere accord of comfort for two people. I believe in "being in love" with my partner, not just "loving" him. Life is worth so much. Life is more than spending endless hours in the gym and eating carrot and celery sticks just to seek approval from others. It is not about basing my everyday existence an eternal word of wisdom of long-dead self proclaimed philosophers and saints. My life is not about living somebody else's dreams and beliefs but my own. Life is so much more than merely pursuing the norms of the societ

Path of the Winged Heart PART:7

Maria returned from her memory and moved in her chair, catching herself as she was about to doze off. She was excited at the prospect of another opportunity to strengthen the wings of her heart. The higher she soared the more she saw; a bird's eye view. Looked at from a higher level, everything appeared connected and part of the same ground. Everything on the ground was part of the same fabric of existence. This fabric is woven of love. Maria was hungry and wanted to fix something to eat but first she went to her jewelry box. She took out the winged heart and looked at it. Then she pushed away some jewelry and took out the folded sheet of paper that was in the bottom of the jewelry box. It was the paper that Vee had passed out. He had reached into his pack and passed the papers in both directions around the circle. Then he read it aloud. Maria unfolded the paper thinking about how long it had been in her jewelry box. She read through it while thinking of that day long ago when Vee

Path of the Winged Heart PART:6

After breakfast about 30 people gathered in a large circle in an open field and Vee gave one of his talks. Maria had remembered being at similar events when she was younger. Vee looked at her and said, "I am inspired to speak of the heart." Vee said that the heart was part the apparatus of perception and that some day science would come to understand this. He said that the brain receives what the eye sends to it and that the brain hears what the ear sends to it. Vee said that the heart also sends information to the brain but the part of the brain that receives this information was underdeveloped in most people. This underdevelopment was due to training, education, and upbringing that was rooted in a culture that did not recognize the value of heart perception. Vee said that there were times when people had flashes where the brain was able to receive what the heart was sending. Vee called hearts that this happened to "hearts that walk." He said that in some that part

Path of the Winged Heart PART:5

He reached across the table and put his hand on the front of her head and whispered, "Teach your heart to fly." She had gotten up to leave but Vee said, "Wait." She sat back down. He fished around in the large compartment of the backpack and pulled out a small cassette player that he placed on the table. He fished around some more and pulled out 4 or 5 cassette tapes. He kept one out and threw the others back in the backpack. He opened the cassette case and passed the empty case to her. It was John Lennon's 'Imagine'. Vee searched for a song on the tape. That was the first time that she had heard 'Crippled Inside'. Maria spent the night in a cabin with her mother and father. She told them of her conversation with Vee. She thought that there was some kind of significance in the coincidence of Guru Vee having both the winged heart and a tape with a song that was related to the nature of their conversation. The following morning people gathered at s

Path of the Winged Heart PART:4

When she had finished her story Vee had asked, "And your question?" Maria blurted out, "How can someone be like that?" Vee stared at her and said, "You have had an encounter with a crippled heart. Hearts become crippled through injury." Vee had gone on to explain that these injuries are usually inflicted by other crippled hearts and that during an encounter with a crippled heart that one must exercise caution so as not to also become crippled. He had talked about crippled hearts and hearts that walk, saying that each could influence the other during situational encounters. A crippled heart might help to cripple a heart that walked if the encounter was not handled correctly and mirroring occurred. A heart that walked, that made it through the encounter without mirroring, was a heart that was strengthened. Maria remembered the words that Vee had spoken that day. "The heart that uses encounters with crippled hearts to its own advantage can reach a point

Path of the Winged Heart PART:3

Maria had remembered it as being like a circus and it had changed a lot in ten years but so had she. It was during this trip in 1977 that she had first heard the term "crippled heart." Her parents had heard that their former Guru of sorts was camping at a rural farm about an hour north of San Francisco and they decided to go see him. His name was Vee. Maria had remembered Vee. He laughed a lot and used to call her 'Magic Maria'. Vee had remembered her too. When they arrived at the farm, Vee hugged her mother and father then looked at Maria, held his hand low and said, "I knew that you were magic. You have gone from this to this small to this tall", as he motioned low and high with his hand. There were others who had come to see Vee. They sat around in a circle outside, reminisced and told stories. Then Vee gave one of his talks. Maria looked around and noticed tears streaking down some cheeks. Vee could do that. He could touch people in a way that could move

Path of the Winged Heart PART:2

Two hours later Maria heard knocks on her door. It was a police officer. Sally's mother had found the phone. Sally had told her mother that she had been watching T.V. when Maria came to the house with the pay phone in the laundry bag, promising to come back and pick it up the next day. Maria told the police officer the truth. He took notes and told her that it would be investigated. The next day it was all over school that Maria had stolen a pay phone, had taken it to Sally's house, and when she had gotten caught had blamed Sally. Maria told her version of the events to a few people who seemed to believe her but the general buzz around school was that she had tried to save her own neck by getting Sally in trouble. Justice had been served in the end, but it had taken four months. All throughout those four months and even after, Sally continued to blame Maria. What had saved her were the words of Mrs. Contega, the old woman who liked to sit on her front steps and chain smoke whil

Path of the Winged Heart PART:1

Maria sank down into her living room chair. It had been a long day. She closed her eyes and replayed the events of the last few days. There had been another encounter with one of the crippled hearts. When she done replaying the events of the past few days, her thoughts drifted back to her first encounter with a crippled heart. It had been 30 years ago when she was 15 years old. Sally had seemed like a friend, at least on the surface. She appeared to be kind and considerate. It took time to really get to know her. Sally was not who she seemed to be. Initially the crippled hearts that Maria had encountered had not been obvious. They were hidden. Hidden behind masks of make believe. Sally was the first person to befriend Maria after her family had moved to the area. She had known Sally for about a year. That had seemed like a long time. She thought back to the day that she really came to know Sally. It was in the fall and she had stopped at Sally's house about an hour after school. Th

Teacher T and Teacher P

Working at a middle school last week, I met Teacher T and Teacher P. Concerned with the lack of grade-level and reading level material for middle school science, Teacher T and Teacher P (just the start of their real names) were moved to action. They began to create their own curriculum. And what a curriculum they created! It is a content-rich, multimedia explosion of information: think MTV meets Isaac Newton. "We work 6:30 am 'till 6:30 pm on these lessons," Teacher P said. "We are the first ones here (at school) in the morning and the last one's to leave at night." I blinked, amazed at what happens when conviction moves to action. Noting the low-economic conditions of his 6th graders, Teacher T set up a student store in his classroom. Students earn "money" for attendance, promptness, various class jobs, and demonstrating thinking skills. Far away in another land… Lies the answer in someone else's hands At times, it's better to learn from someone who already knows Than trying for hours to compose That special letter, speech, event or song It could take only a minute instead of so long The best of the best have learned from their mentor They learned how to go within to their center The core inside that helps you stay balanced The one that encourages you to share your talents When we learn from another it's quicker at that We then can pass it on in a drop of a hat So learn from the masters and take it all in The more you do this the more you will win Knowledge and Wisdom - what wonderful things The idea of it makes me feel as if I have wings So I share with you how I have learned Through others experiences whose lives have turned I then took my own and shared with others Knowing that the Universe is all sisters and brothers The more people we help, the better we feel It makes this bonding of the Universe seem

Keep Helping Others; The World Needs Us

Allan Paul, a final year Engineering Student, was considered a safe driver by all who knew him. One sunny morning, Allan was on his way home from his friend's house on his favourite bike. All of a sudden, due to a major mistake by a truck driver near a traffic signal, Allan's bike collided with the huge truck. Poor Allan lost his legs and was laying in the middle of the road, trembling. He cried out for help but no one bothered to pick him up. They were afraid of the consequences they could face if they gave Allan a helping hand. There was a huge crowd gathering, watching Allan like he was an alien. Allan kept crying and shouting aloud and finally he crawled to the sidewalk all by himself. Then he saw a man getting out of a car. Allan pleaded with him and cried out, "Please help me. I want to live. Save me, I am dying". The man ran over and helped. He picked up Allan and took him to the hospital. Allan gave him his contact number and the man then called Allan's ho

False Reality, False Illusions

How quickly we fall under the belief of false illusions. We are so easily taken and so gullible to believe that our reality is one in which we have to be suffering, that our reality is one in which I must be a victim of some sort, otherwise where and how do I go about getting my needs met, who next will hear my story? My question is: whose story is it? Aren't we all part of the same story? Aren't we all just a sum of the whole? A part of the sum is each equally important, but the more important part of the equation is the whole, the end product. As in nature, one petal is not more important than the whole flower, one tree not greater than a grand forest. One raindrop is not more effective than the whole storm, one wave does not define the depth of the ocean. One ray of sun is not brighter than the whole sun and one grain of sand is not better than the whole beach. In our false reality, each of us is the main character in our story, but the truth is that there are no main charac

If I Can Do It, Anyone Can!

I'm often asked "Glenn, you're a Motivational Speaker with two college degrees, and a multi-million dollar sales company, but you were once a high school dropout. What made you go back to school and do all you've done?" Since this is so often asked, I thought I'd put it here for all to read. Please allow me to break it down for you as simply as possible. (An abridged version.) I was kicked out of HS when I was 16-Y-O. Being ignorant back then, I thought it was cool. It allowed more time for a venture that made me money -- though it wasn't legal. Someone told me of the GED, which I took -- twice -- in order to pass. Oh well, at least I passed. When I was 19-Y-O, I was seeing this college chick who said, "If you couldn't even get a high school diploma, then you're stupid!" It bothered me that she said I was stupid. I said to myself that I'd show her! I went to an adult education school, which was a branch of the Poway Unified School Dis

You Are Here

Ginny and I rode the subway from Brooklyn to Manhattan. We exited the tunnel, burst into bright sunshine, and began to cross the Manhattan Bridge into lower Manhattan. Through the windows, we watched the city grow larger. Skyscrapers stretched to the scattered clouds above them. It was intimidating - miles of buildings - a wall of concrete and glass. The river fell below and behind us. We plunged underneath the city and to our transfer point at West 4TH street. We walked off the train and looked around. The station had three levels of tracks - all underground. "Which way do we go?" I asked. We climbed the stairs to the next level. Ginny pointed. "Look! There's a subway map over there." Ginny pointed. "I see it." We walked up to the six-foot high display with the map of the New York City subway on it. Colored lines, indicating the various subway lines, crisscrossed the map. It looked like someone had spilled multicolored spaghetti over the face of it. I

"Intruder" and an "Infiltrator"? English Edification Enrichment (34)

What is the difference between an "intruder" and an "infiltrator"? An "intruder" is someone who enters another person's property illegally - without the owner's consent. The act of intrusion may be accidental or deliberate. A thief who enters your house is an example of an individual who intrudes on your property intentionally. Sometimes when you go out on long walks you may intrude on someone else's property without being aware of it. Maybe you didn't see the sign that said, "Private Property: Keep Out". Whether you enter another person's property intentionally or accidentally, the moment you enter it, you have become an intruder. Technically, you are breaking the law. * The police shot the intruder. * The intruders were caught as soon as they crossed the border. An "infiltrator" is someone who enters a country or an organization without the others being aware of it. The individual enters secretly and he uses a lot

Benefits of Personal Development

Take a good look in the mirror right now. The person you see staring back is the only one responsible for your success or failure. I'm absolutely serious. You need to realize right now that your success boils down to one thing - YOU! True freedom and success comes at a price. Nothing worthwhile comes without effort. Get excited about paying the price for success now instead of paying the price for the rest of your life for mediocrity. I believe the personal development road is an invitation that is sent to all but recognized by few. It seems to me that those on the personal development road often times are somehow invited into a special banquet hall to take a sneak look at what is possible. This glimpse then invites those rare questions that most people simply don't ask themselves. What if I decide to set and reach higher goals? What if I decide to go for my dreams? What if I can change certain unpleasant things about myself? What if I can significantly make a difference in the

Use Empowering Words When You Talk to Yourself

How do you talk to yourself? Do you use the words "can't", "won't", "don't need to", "why try"? Many people do. Do you find that what you say to yourself turns out to be true? Why is this? You see your brain is like a computer that you feed each day. It doesn't know always know what's real or not unless you tell it. Example: If someone you love has hurt you, you may tell yourself that all people who love you will probably hurt you too. Your brain just files this information for reference, it's data, little zeroes and ones and no column that asks "true or not true?" Now your brain thinks, based on what you told it, that everyone you'll ever love will hurt you. How do you think you will respond the next time you get hurt? Right!! Now, what if we instead told our brain: "Okay this person ripped my heart out - but that's only one person. I'm lovable and have many loving people in my life who are not

My Red Dress Day

I woke up one day in a "down", sad mood. I was going to work that morning and had to dress up for my job. With the way I was feeling, I believe most people would have chosen dark and drab colored clothing. Believe me, that was my first thought. "Grab your ugliest dress to go with your ugly feelings." Well, I eventually decided on a fancy red dress. I thought, "Well if I can't feel good, I will at least try to look good, and maybe make someone else feel better." It was amazing how my outlook got better just by putting that dress on. During the course of the day, many people came up to me and commented on my red dress and how nice I looked. It didn't take long and my spirits started to soar! Next time you're in a depression, put on a fancy outfit and feel the sadness wash away.

The Seed

Once upon a time, there was a seed and because it was only a seed, nobody cared to notice it. Thus, gripped by a sense of inferiority, the seed gave no importance to his existence. Then one day, a wind picked him up - randomly or otherwise he didn't know - and threw him mercilessly on an open field under the sweltering sun. He was confused. Why would anything do such a thing? But instead of any copasetic answers, he was provided with rain (in addition to sunlight); sometimes in drizzles and sometimes in torrents. Meanwhile time flew and years later he saw a traveler sitting by his side. "Thank you God for this. I really needed some rest," he heard the traveler say. "What are you talking about?" The seed promptly asked. He thought the man was making fun of him. Sure, he had witnessed many people sitting by his side - more so in recent years - but no one ever spoke to him like that. "Who is this?" The man was startled. "This is me. The seed." &

Letting Go Of Regrets To Make Better Choices

Conceptualizing is always the best way to determine each choice that you make. When you do this, you have to visualize the possible outcome or circumstances that might occur if you make that choice. There are many different possible circumstances to each choice. The best choices are always made when you are being honest to yourself and to others. If you happen to make any other choice, it will surely not flow consistently and in a normal pattern, therefore the results will not be consistent and normal. The determination of these factors is something only you can control at the given moment, and each moment varies in complexity. We have all made disastrous decisions in our lifetimes and I am sure that there may be some regrets that are attached to those decisions. You shall not let these past decisions affect you anymore. The energy that is attached to your regrets will encompass any of your future choices and will assure the same type of results. Letting go of such regrets will allow y
